For a long time now I’ve wanted to develop several of the short stories that I’ve started. Many times when I’m in need of getting the words flowing, but haven’t quite got my mind into my current WIP, I will do a warm-up exercise. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary word-of-the-day is perfect for this. At least for me, it’s been a fun way to get my creativity flowing with a project that isn’t a story connected to my emotions. I can freely toss out my thoughts and see where they take me.
Since I’m a full-blown plotter, it’s a blast to throw caution to the wind and pants-away! Sometimes, I even find a little golden nugget.
I also use this time as a sprint. When the timer goes off, I stop. Because of that, I have a lot of story fragments. Instead of leaving these little gems to languish in my hard drive, I’ve decided to have some fun with them.
For another twist, there will be moments where I’m going to ask for your input! I’m excited to see where this goes, and I hope you’ll follow along!
